My clients’ request for black and white bistro-style tile flooring inspired the design of the kitchen. The jewel-tone of the green shaker-style cabinets almost becomes neutral against the floors and pairs beautifully with the brass faucet, cabinet hardware, and oversized globe pendants. We used honed Carrara marble countertops around the perimeter and walnut on the island to give the space warmth. For a sleek and contemporary look, we continued the marble up the wall and behind the sink and range. Rattan counter stools and natural fiber area rugs soften the rigidity of the black and white tile. A nook in the back door entryway provides a functional drop zone for this family with custom cabinetry, seating, and wall hooks.
